The port city of Tarragona, in the Spanish region of Catalonia southwest of
Barcelona, has a long and rich history. Originally the Roman port city of
Tarraconense, Tarragona has an historic Part Alta (old quarter) surrounded
by Roman Walls on three sides, within which is a Romanesque-Gothic
transition style Cathedral built in the 12-14th centuries. There is a line
of gently sloping beaches of fine sand, the oldest sailing club in
Catalonia, and opportunities for water sports of all types.
